O-ID raises $1.2M pre-seed to build modular humanoids in Japan
O-ID has raised $1.2M (約2億円) in pre-seed funding. The round is backed by Tawani Ventures, Hustle Fund and Techstars.
O-ID builds modular humanoid robots for industrial work. Every major module comes off and goes back on in about five minutes, on the floor, without tools. A robot that fails on a production line is repaired where it stands instead of going back to its manufacturer. The supply chain is 100% Japanese.
Japan is three million workers short today and will be eleven million short by 2040, according to the Recruit Works Institute. When a machine goes down in that environment, there is nobody spare to cover the gap. That is the problem O-ID is built for.
